What does Kaskazi mean?
Kaskazi, a Swahili word meaning “north,” is often used to refer to the forceful Northeast monsoon winds which have played an enormously important role in the history and culture of the coastal peoples.
What does KEA do ?
KEA recognizes that our future rests on our ability to understand and appreciate the interdependency of humans and the physical environment in which we live. Toward this goal, KEA provides comprehensive environmental education by using local marine/ coastal habitats as an educational tool designed to help communities make connections between the ocean’s environment and their lives. All our programs are offered free of charge to participants. In providing free, comprehensive environmental education, KEA hopes to inspire stewardship of East Africa’s coastal/marine resources.
What East African countries will KEA have operations in?
KEA will work along East African coastal areas, primarily in Kenya and Tanzania. We are currently in the planning process to open a regional center in Mombasa, Kenya. As we refine our model, we will expand to other communities within Kenya and Tanzania.
Is KEA affiliated with any governmental organizations?
KEA is a California non-profit corporation, Federal Tax ID #45-2416535. KEA currently seeks registration in Kenya as a non-governmental organization (NGO). KEA is not affiliated with any government entity.
